Knighton Museum

Local History

Knighton Museum

Located on Broad Street in the heart of this historic border town, Knighton Museum is a fascinating, community-led time capsule. Housed on the historic site of Clee & Sons, Knighton’s very first mid-20th-century department store, the museum is run entirely by a passionate team of local volunteers.

Rather than focusing on distant history, the museum is dedicated to the social and living history of the upper Teme Valley. It offers an authentic, nostalgic, and deeply personal look at how the people of this vibrant Welsh-English borderland lived, worked, and played across the generations.

A "Hands-On" Journey Through Time

What truly sets Knighton Museum apart from traditional heritage sites is its wonderful interactive philosophy. Visitors are actively encouraged to touch and handle many of the artifacts on display. This tactile approach bridges the generation gap perfectly, acting as a vivid sensory experience for younger visitors and a powerful memory-provoker for older generations.
